Happy New Year!

View from the top of Green Mountain, Dec. 23, 2011

Bringing in the new year with an MI-5 (aka Spooks) marathon and doing some crafting. A pair of new socks on the needles and a quilt sandwich (yummy yummy) in the process of being hand quilted.

Zoo Friends

My Zoo Friends quilt for baby Cian in Ireland. It's a pretty basic log cabin type of pattern and I followed directions from Modern Log Cabin Quilting for the construction. Now onto the next project. : )

T. rex lives

We spent another awesome weekend in the desert, Indian Creek to be specific. My leg is tons better, but sticking it in a crack and torquing it wasn't in the cards. Instead I had fun hiking around in my T. rex costume and hanging out with friends.

Nicole (aka 5 year old super hero) and Aaron (Capt. Kirk) getting ready to go climbing on Saturday. It was noted that my T. rex also resembled the Gorn and later in the day there was an epic recreation of the Kirk vs Gorn battle in the desert. I think Nicole has photographic evidence. : )

Little Jon (aka Bat Boy) and Jaro (aka young papa smurf). Jon's costume was made of an umbrella cut in half and sewn to a black shirt. Super creative.

We even managed to get in a little climbing on Sunday after all the Halloween festivities on Saturday and the longest approach I've ever done at the creek.

All in all a great weekend.

99%

Been reading the 99% blog. The amount of student debt is staggering. I feel very lucky to have not had any student debt.

Cotton Hat

My coline knit in Rowan All Seasons Cotton. This yarn was part of my free Rowan International Membership gift ages ago. This pattern worked ok with this yarn, but I definitely think I'll make another in wool.

iPod + Scraps

I was bored last weekend. So I made an iPod cover... inspired by the camera cover in Modern Log Cabin Quilting.

Everything in the iPod cover is made from leftovers and repurposed materials. It makes me happy to use up leftovers and this little cover is surprisingly functional. Happy.

Habitat

This is my second time making this pattern, Habitat, and I still think it is wonderful.

Modern Log Cabin Quilting

I just got Modern Log Cabin Quilting in the mail! It looks great. I can't wait to get started on some of the smaller projects to work on my technique.

The author also has a blog, which looks neat too.

More Wedding Pics

Our wedding was pretty simple. We gathered our family at the picnic area in Eldorado Canyon State Park, exchanged our own vows, had a picnic with lots of homemade yumminess, and took some pics by the creek. It was just what we wanted. Low key with a chance for our families to get to know each other without a lot of crazyness and stress.

Fibula crack

Broke my right fibula at the ankle in two place carrying rocks off a section and back to the car. Happy times.

More Little Socks

Another pair of stash busting baby socks. I just ran out of red for the second sock so the socks are slightly mismatched, but I kind of like them that way. Small imperfections.

One Little Sock

Using up some yarn in my stash that I bought when I lived in the UK. This was a fun and fast knit.

I love love love short row heels. I think that might sway me back to top down socks. Not sure I love the short row toe with zig zag bind off, but it works for baby socks.

Cal Academy

And the last of my San Francisco pics. These are from my two visits to the California Academy of Science. We had a conference mixer in the evening and a tour of the collections a few days later. Really neat place with lots of interesting challenges with respect to managing collections in a LEED certified building located in a park.

Crafting with a Cold

Started working on the back of the scraps quilt. This sucker is going to be huge. Queen Size. And takes up most of my living room floor and it isn't at the required size to fit the top yet. Eek.

A close up of one corner

I also managed to make a batch of strawberry rhubarb jam in my nyquil infused state. Mmm. Jam.
